Megastek - GVT-500 Configuration

This page documents the public configuration context for using the Megastek GVT-500 tracker with Plaspy. It explains the practical server settings, common setup workflow, and the public SMS commands that are commonly used to point the device to Plaspy. Use this guide together with manufacturer instructions to complete a reliable integration.

Plaspy uses shared server settings across supported devices and automatically detects the tracker protocol, while exact manufacturer-side steps can vary by firmware, hardware revision, installation type, and vendor tools. The GVT-500 supports SMS configuration and GPRS settings shown below; the sample configuration commands on this page use the device default password 000000 when applicable.

Configuration Overview

The goal of configuring the GVT-500 for Plaspy is to prepare the tracker to communicate reliably with the Plaspy platform, verify connectivity, and enable device visibility and event reporting in the account.

  • Configure the tracker to report to the Plaspy server endpoint so location and events appear in the platform.
  • Set the operator APN and enable GPRS mode so the device can use mobile data.
  • Assign the device ID and update interval so the tracker sends frequent updates.
  • Validate transport selection (UDP or TCP) and port to match Plaspy server settings.
  • Confirm the tracker reports successfully and appears in Plaspy for monitoring.

Plaspy Server Settings

  • Server domain d.plaspy.com
  • Server IP 54.85.159.138
  • Port 8888
  • Transport support for UDP or TCP (device may be configured to use either UDP or TCP on port 8888)
  • Plaspy automatically detects the tracker protocol

Typical Requirements Before Setup

  • A powered and reachable GVT-500 tracker with its IMEI available for device identification.
  • An active SIM card with data service and a working APN for the operator.
  • Access to the manufacturer configuration method for the GVT-500 such as SMS commands or an official configuration tool.
  • Knowledge of the device password; sample commands below use the default password 000000.
  • A way to receive confirmation messages or logs from the device after configuration to validate changes.
  • The manufacturer user manual or firmware notes for any model specific behavior or command variants.

How This Tracker Connects to Plaspy

The GVT-500 is configured to send location and device data to the shared Plaspy server endpoint and port so Plaspy can ingest and display the device on the platform. Plaspy uses the same port for all supported devices and will detect the correct protocol automatically.

  • The tracker sends GPRS data packets to d.plaspy.com or directly to 54.85.159.138 on port 8888.
  • Plaspy receives the device traffic and maps reports to the account by device ID or IMEI.
  • Updates and alarms are forwarded to the Plaspy platform for visibility and alerting.
  • Choosing UDP or TCP on the tracker controls the transport used to reach Plaspy on port 8888.
  • Plaspy's automatic protocol detection simplifies device configuration because the platform parses incoming messages from the tracker.

Common Configuration Workflow

  1. Access the official Megastek configuration method for the GVT-500 such as the SMS command interface or the vendor configuration tool.
  2. Enter the Plaspy server value either as the domain d.plaspy.com or as the server IP 54.85.159.138 in the device server settings.
  3. Set the server port to 8888 in the device configuration.
  4. Choose the transport protocol (UDP or TCP) if the device requires selecting one.
  5. Configure APN and GPRS so the device can use mobile data, and set the reporting interval as required.
  6. Apply or save the configuration and restart the device if the tracker requires a reboot for new settings to take effect.
  7. Validate that the device reports to Plaspy by checking device connectivity and presence in the Plaspy platform.

Example Configuration Commands

The GVT-500 supports SMS-based configuration. The commands below are public examples and preserve placeholders where appropriate. Send each command as an SMS from an authorized phone number. The sample default device password shown here is 000000.

  • Set the device ID (replace <IMEI15> with the device 15 digit IMEI)
M000000,22,<IMEI15>
  • Set the operator APN (replace [apn] with your SIM APN; optionally include [apnu] user and [apnp] password if required)
M000000,23,[apn]

Optional with APN user and password:

M000000,23,[apn],[apnu],[apnp]
  • Set the update interval to 60 seconds
M000000,25,60
  • Set the GPRS server to Plaspy using the server IP and port (the example includes a leading server index or mode value commonly used by this device)
M000000,24,56 54.85.159.138,8888
  • Enable GPRS mode
M000000,21,2

Notes on placeholders and usage:

  • <IMEI15> means the 15 digit IMEI number of the device. Some commands require the IMEI or device ID to register the tracker in the fleet.
  • [apn], [apnu], and [apnp] are placeholders for the operator APN, APN user name, and APN password respectively. Replace them with your carrier values.
  • The "56" in the server command above is a value present in the public example command and may represent a server slot or mode; confirm the meaning for your firmware version.
  • Commands should be sent from an authorized number and may require using the device password prefix; the examples use the default password 000000 as shown.

Configuration Notes

  • Firmware and command syntax can vary by GVT-500 firmware revision; confirm the exact command format in the Megastek manual for your unit.
  • The device supports SMS based configuration as shown, but some installations may use a wired configuration tool over RS-232 or vendor software. Use the method appropriate to your installation.
  • Choose UDP or TCP according to your network environment; Plaspy accepts either on port 8888 and will detect the protocol automatically.
  • Plaspy uses the same port for all devices, so always set port 8888 when directing the device to the Plaspy endpoint.
  • Keep a record of the IMEI and the device password used during setup to help with device registration and troubleshooting.

Why Use Plaspy with This Configuration

Configuring the Megastek GVT-500 to report to Plaspy gives organizations consistent centralized visibility of device location and status. Using the shared Plaspy endpoint simplifies deployment because the platform automatically detects the tracker protocol and uses the same port across supported devices, reducing per-device configuration differences.
